Just Another... Well, Not Great Moment in Big Journalism but Rather a Typical Moment....

Via Rock and Rap Confidential (get it free!):
"Eight time world surfing champion Kelly Slater, competing this week in the Boost Mobile Pro at Lower Trestles near San Clemente, lists his favorite current recording artists: Citizen Cope ("I really listen to his stuff a lot"), James Morrison, and Paolo Nutini. Slater, who plays in a band called the Surfers, says of his love of music: "At times, I feel as passionate about it as my surfing. Sometimes, even more so."

Surfers are generally portrayed as party animals who don't care about anything but the next wave. This recent quote from Slater was not in the LA Times:

"Why is Paris Hilton going to a halfway house for three weeks bigger news than 500 Iraqis a day being killed in their own country everyday as well as lots of American troops? This is not to mention the injured, which is about ten times higher than the fatalities. It's life-changing for so many people. A crime of humanity."
And another sign that Big Media refuses to give the audience what the latter wants instead of what the former wants is here.

Oops! And more on the subject is here.
