It would come as a surprise if Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who has long lambasted the involvement of special interests in campaign fundraising, didn't have some harsh words for a candidate leading the presidential field in utilizing lobbyists as fundraisers.Link, lots more.
Unless that candidate was John McCain.
As reported by the Washington Post's Jeffrey H. Birnbaum and John Solomon, McCain has spent the 2008 campaign cycle "assiduously courting both lobbyists and their wealthy clients, offering them private audiences as part of his fundraising."
The senator also depends on lobbyists -- more than 30 or them, the paper reports -- as heavy-hitting fundraisers for his campaign.
